                                                              HEADER TANK KIT INSTRUCTIONS

This Header Tank Kit is designed to be used with any water cooled engine in any vehicle.

PURPOSE

The header tank simply does two things. It gives the air that may get into the cooling system from a variety of sources a place to accumulate that will not be harmful to the engine, and it allows placement of the tank so that convenient filling of the cooling system can be achieved.

FUNDAMENTALS

The only things that must be considered when installing this header tank kit are:

There must be continuous flow of coolant through the header tank at all times.

Any areas of the cooling system that could cause harm to the engine if air was to accumulate in that area should be plumbed   to the upper part of the header tank. If more than one line for venting is to be used, then either a TEE fitting must be used or additional NPT/AN fittings must be welded into the tank.

The tank must be mounted as the highest point in the cooling system. You should try and find a convenient, as well as high, location to mount the tank as you will likely be accessing the radiator cap regularly.

Failure to follow these three basic guidlines will result in the cooling system being ineffective at purging itself, and major engine failure could occur.

INSTRUCTIONS

When using this Header Tank Kit in its intended installation configuration, no other tank is required in the cooling system. However, if one desires to run a coolant recovery tank so that there is no overflow onto the ground and so that no air is present in the pressurized side of the cooling system at all, then an optional recovery tank can be implemented. Otherwise the drain that comes out of the header tank near the underside of the radiator cap can be run to wherever is safe and convenient to vent steam and water from the vehicle.

Please refer to the enclosed picture of a hypothetical installation on a GM LS engine. Note that if you intend to run a heater in the vehicle and the heater circuit includes any sort of flow control valve, then the optional Heater Bypass Valve Upgrade Kit should be used with the Header Tank Kit in order to ensure constant flow through the header tank at all times. NO OTHERR VALVE SHOULD BE USED IN THE CIRCUIT EXCPETT FOR A BYPASS VALVE THAT ENSURES CONSTANT FLOW.
